Winter Gas Saving Tips
It is true that gas prices are rising day by day, but it does not mean that we are left with the only option of cutting back on driving. As matter of fact, cutting back on driving, especially when you are used to your driving habit for every small trip, is not possible! In such a situation, the idea of saving gas or fuel proves to be most effective way to save your money. Yes, there are ways through which you can save gas in this winter season as well. Here are few of them:
- Plan your trip beforehand. While planning trips, try to avoid areas with excess traffic, like busy shopping centers during holiday season. If possible, combine your trips and try to avoid driving when traffic is too heavy. Because, when traffic is heavy, you are likely to stop-and-go frequently, when your vehicle uses more fuel. Moreover, use cruise control on the highway to ensure a consistent speed.
- Avoid driving with quick accelerations and speeding to red lights just to stop. Because, speeding decreases your fuel efficiency dramatically. Therefore, try to anticipate the traffic ahead and drive smoothly by eliminating the quick spurts.
- Try to keep your car engine tuned up! Replace its fluids and filters on a regular basis as recommended in the driver’s manual. An inefficient engine wastes gas every time you drive your car.
- Regardless of any weather condition, avoid prolonged warming up of the engine, since it causes wastage of gas.
- Check the tires of your car regularly, as cold weather causes air pressure to drop easily. And under-inflated tires make the engine work harder to push the car, causing gas to burn faster.
- Make sure that the car trunk is empty all the time, and remove excess weight from the car. By removing the extra weight from your car, you will gain better miles per gallon, which means you will save more gas!
