Hatchback cars are the most popular cars these days. These cars contain a passenger cabin and a large cargo space at the back of the vehicle. This space can be accessed from the back of the car by a large flip-up window or top-hinged tailgate. Generally, these cars come with two rows of seats where the rear seats can be folded to make extra space for cargo. This is the reason why hatchbacks are gaining significance across the globe these days.
The rear seats of the hatchback can be folded partially or almost completely and this expands the cargo space allowing you to accommodate more cargo inside the car. These hatchbacks also include a parcel shelf that covers the cargo space that stays connected to the back of the rear seats and the tailgate. It is quite flexible and rolls up as the tailgate is opened.
These cars offer extra storage space to the passengers. In case, you plan some outing or have to shift things from one place to another, this cargo space lets you manage things easily. It was a front wheel drive hatchback. General Motors launched its first hatchback named Chevrolet Vega in the year 1970. In 1973, German manufacturers launched their first hatchback-Volkswagen Passat.
These hatchbacks were followed by several other improved and better versions. Hatchbacks were more popular and widely used in developed countries like Europe, North America and the USSR. But they were not so popular in developing countries like South America, Africa and some countries in Asia.
