A majority of drivers have faced one or many accidents in their lives. And at some point in your life, you may also involve in a car accident. Accidents can create confusion, even if they are minor. The worse part in an accident is that many people do not have any idea as what to do when this happens. Even if you try your best to drive responsibly, it is very important for you to know what to do in case you end up in a car accident. Thus, here are a few tips to keep in mind and apply them if one happens in the future:

• This is obvious that after an accident, a person may feel shock, guilt, nervousness, anger or fear or all of them altogether. But, you need to keep yourself calm,

• since this would help you stay in control of the situation, and ultimately you will be able to handle it as well. Thus, take a few deep breaths or count from 1 to 10 to calm down.
• Make sure you and every passenger in your car are alright. In certain situation, if you are not able to get out of the car, keep your seat belt fastened, turn on your hazard lights, and then wait for help to arrive. If you are in a condition to drive your car, shift the car to a safer spot. But, there are some states where it is illegal to move a car after an accident. Activate your hazard warning lights, or set up orange cones, or emergency flares in order to warn the oncoming traffic.
• If anyone involved in the accident gets severe injury, call the emergency number that your state uses in order to request emergency assistance on roadways.
• Call your insurance company to report the claim as soon as possible. Because, the sooner your report about the accident, the sooner the company can start working to resolve your claim.
• Do not discuss about the accident with anyone other than the police, as well as your insurance company.
• Do not forget to note down the name, address, phone number, and license numbers of the other driver or drivers involved in the accident. Also take vital information of  witnesses. You can also ask for the name of the insurer and policy number of all drivers.
