Used Cars And After-Market Auto Warranty

Used cars sold by dealers usually come with an after-market auto warranty. The warranty refers to a service offered to the owner by the dealer in association with a third party vendor. This means, the dealer bear the repair and maintenance cost of the vehicle for a specified period of time. However, such an auto warranty does not cover the replacement and repairs of expensive parts of the vehicle.

Usually, used car dealers offer four different auto warranty packages to the car buyer. The packages also come in terms of a period of months or mileage covered by the car. You can choose either of them, whichever is suitable for you!
Before making the final decision of buying a used car, have a close look at all the after-market auto warranty packages. It is very important since the offers include various features, that differ from package to package. Review each of them carefully and then choose the best package or the one which meets your requirements! Also read the features carefully, because they may include hidden costs also.

Sometimes the features included in the after market auto warranty are not extended. So, beware of fraudulent offers! In order to avoid such circumstances, review the package carefully. However, in the United States, customers are protected against fraud under the Lemon Law.

Remember to check if the manufacturer’s warranty is still in effect on the used car. If it is there, you may have to pay a fee to obtain coverage to make it a service contract. But, if the dealer absorbs the cost of the manufacturer’s fee, the coverage is considered as a warranty. Thus, while shopping for a used car, always look for a Buyer’s Guide sticker. It is attached on the car’s side window, which will tell you whether a service contract is available or whether the car is being sold with a warranty!
