Truck 4 wheel drive

A Four-wheel drive or 4X4 is a type of drive system that allows all four wheels of a vehicle to receive torque from the engine simultaneously. In other words, a four-wheel drive vehicle allows the driver to manually (or automatically) switch between two-wheel drive mode for normal road conditions and four-wheel drive mode for low traction conditions, such as snow, ice, mud, or slippery surfaces. Many people often associate a four-wheel drive system with off-road vehicles; basically sport utility vehicles and trucks.

Basically there are two types of four-wheel drive systems- Full-time and Part-time four-wheeled drive. Full-time drive means that a vehicle is permanently in this mode; while part-time four-wheeled drive means that the driver can manually change it to two wheel or four wheel drive mode. The number of four-wheel drive vehicles is growing every year be it trucks, cars or crossovers. The trucks or any other vehicle equipped with four-wheel drive have definite advantages. Take the example of trucks. The foremost advantage of a four-wheel drive truck is that if one or two of its wheels are spinning on slippery roads, the remaining one or two wheels can still have traction on the road and enable the truck to move safely! Under such a circumstance, a truck equipped with only two-wheel drive can not help you drive, because when both wheels lose traction and start spinning on ice or snow, the truck cannot move at all.

Besides, four-wheel drive has some other advantages as well. Significantly, it will help you accelerate your truck and to some extent it can help you in steering, since the front wheels are pulling in the preferred direction. Four-wheel drive is most likely to offer suitable traction, sometimes better ground and occasionally improved ride quality. For most trucks, four-wheel drive is the only way to get all these qualities! Thus, four-wheel drive trucks are winners in capability and utility and thus are in high demand!

For-wheel drive trucks often come with better tires for adverse conditions as well as better brakes. Owning a four-wheel drive truck involves a higher investment since its parts and service cost more. It uses tires and gasoline faster and extra driveline parts need to be added for routine maintenance. In addition, it may cost more in respect of insurance as well! However, careful driving of your four-wheel drive truck may help you keep maintenance costs down!
