Traction Control- Automotive Technology
Traction control is one of the advanced safety automotive features, which is getting more popular in recent times. Today, traction control is found in almost every latest car model. The purpose of the system is to offer drivers with the benefit of space-age electronics, which improve a vehicle’s contact with the road.
The innovative technology is instrumental in improving your driving experience on the road, while enhancing safety! Traction, in terms of vehicle refers to the vehicle’s ability to maintain adhesive friction between the tires and the pavement. But, there are different kinds of traction. One kind of traction when we brake; then another when we accelerate; and lastly, when we turn. Traction control system exclusively deals with lateral (both front and back) loss of friction during acceleration. It can be simplified as when a vehicle accelerates from a dead stop, or if it speeds up while passing another vehicle, the traction control becomes instrumental in maximizing contact between the tires and the road surface. The best part of the system is that it works even under significantly poor road conditions.
Traction control is one of the three braking technology developments that dates back to the the mid-eighties. The three technologies, anti-lock brakes or ABS (1978), traction control (1985), and stability control (1995) were all developed at the laboratories of Robert Bosch Company in Germany. They all are concerned with the issue of improving contact between the vehicle’s tires and the road.
Traction control is offered with a large number of vehicles by the major automakers of the world. They include General Motors, DaimlerChrysler, BMW, Ford, Saab, Volvo, Lexus, Volkswagen, Infiniti, Audi and Porsche.
