Tire Pressure Monitoring System
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is an advanced car technology used to monitor tire pressure, thereby improving a vehicle’s safety! The monitoring system enhances the safety of a vehicle by warning its driver about the abnormal tire pressure, that could lead to severe mishap. Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems are a new standard to ensure the lives of the passengers inside a vehicle on the road.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System debuted in the year 1986 with Porsche 959. Thus, Porsche happened to be the first auto manufacturer in the world to use this advanced technology. It was in the year 1999, Peugeot, the second largest European car maker, adopted the technology as a standard feature for its Peugeot 607 and later, in 2000, Renault adopted it for its Laguna II. Much popularity in Europe helped tire pressure monitoring system to widespread in other parts of the world.
However, with the introduction of flat tires by car manufacturers across the globe, it became mandatory for car manufacturers to equip tire pressure monitoring system on their vehicles with flat tires. The United States’ National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has developed a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard that requires the installation of tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) in order to warn the driver when a tire is significantly under-inflated.
Advantages Of Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems
- Precise real-time direct tire pressure measurement.
- Reduced fuel consumption.
- Increase tire lifetime.
- Enhanced vehicle performance.
- Increased vehicle reliability and safety.
