While this article reads important things that teen drivers should remember, but it does not mean that those are only for teens! Experienced drivers can also follow the things mentioned here. Because, everybody needs to be careful on the road! Drivers can prevent collisions with some care and by reducing their distractions as well as maintaining control of their vehicles. Below are some preventive measures that will help all drivers to drive safe, irrespective of level of experience.
- Focus only on driving, keep your eyes on the road and hands on steering wheel. Distraction while driving is one of main reasons for road accidents with all ages. But, if we see the statistics, young and inexperienced drivers are more prone to accidents because of distraction. Modern vehicles have a number of amenities that occupy a driver’s attention, such as radios, and CD players, but one should realize that driving is not a multi-functional task. It requires driver’s full attention.
- Before you drive or once you get into your car, always check your mirrors and seat position. Set all the things properly, fasten your safety belt and adjust your mirrors. Always remember to keep music at a low level, because loud music makes it a bit tough to hear the horns and siren. Apart, ask other occupants in your vehicle to buckle up!
- Avoid talking on cell phone while driving and if possible do not make calls. In emergency situations, let your voice-mail pick up incoming calls.
- Try to be familiar with your vehicle and know its features properly. Most importantly, know the type of braking system that your vehicle uses. And if your vehicle has an anti-locking braking system (ABS), make sure you keep your foot firmly on the pedal when you stop your vehicle abruptly. Never pump the brakes in an emergency situation, since it may provide false information to your braking system and prevent it from operating correctly.
- Drive slow and try to keep distance from the vehicle in front of you. Especially in bad weather, such as rain, fog, snow, ice, reduce your speed!
