Rules For Learner Drivers
Driving requires a lot of understanding of the driving skills. But, before you learn how to drive, you should know about various rules and restrictions that apply on you. All these rules and regulations for learner drivers are implemented in order to reduce the risk to new learners as well as others on the road. And every government makes sure that the rules are obeyed by every learner! Following are the rules that ensure that learner drivers stay within the limit of the law and at the same time are able to enjoy the learning process:
- Driving License: Before you start to learn driving, you must hold a valid provisional driving license. It is rather an offense not to hold a provisional license. You should also keep in mind that driving a vehicle without a valid provisional or full license can make your insurance ineffective, thereby leaving you uninsured while driving.
- Age: In order to apply for a provisional license, the applicant must be at least seventeen years of age. If you are going to apply for it, remember, you can not apply for it more than three months before your seventeenth birthday. After obtaining your provisional license, you can sit for your theory test once you have turned seventeen-year old. According to the law, no learner driver can take their theory test before their seventeenth birthday.
- “Is Your Car Roadworthy?”: This is a very important factor to consider when you decide to get behind the wheels to learn to drive. Before you drive a vehicle, you should make sure that its brakes, lights, mirrors and indicators are in proper shape and functioning. Along, it should also be considered if the vehicle has a valid MOT certificate. In this regard, used car buyers should be extra careful! Before you get to learn to drive a used car, you need to get it checked by an expert.
- Displaying “L” Plates: It is also very important to display ‘L’ plates onto the vehicle, so that other drivers on the road can identify that you are learning. Displaying ‘L’ plates is a legal requirement and not to display is an offense.
