There are many people who have had success with auto auctions, be it traditional or online and have walked away with a quality used car. But, at the same time there are other people who might have a contrasting experience. Therefore, it is very important to have a look at some good and bad points before you consider trying your luck at an auto auction. Here are a few of them:

Pros

  • Price: Price is the biggest advantage when it comes to auto auctions. They are known for their startlingly good prices and the ease of finding a great deal. Depending on the type of car you are interested in, the type of auction and the popularity of the car, you can really score big. Also there are possibility of getting discounts of up to 90 percent off the regular retail price.
  • Choice: Generally, auto auctions have many cars to sell. Given their number, say 30-50 cars, you have the a wealth of opportunity to choose  a car, especially when you are not sure what you are going to buy. Besides, if you do not find something you like at an auction, you can always go to an another auto auction to try or even wait a few months for another round of auctions. Moreover, you have another option of looking for online auctions as well.

Cons

  • Inspections: It is very important to have a car inspected before you buy it. Most live or traditional auto auctions provide you time to look over the car, but some do not. It is not very safe to head to an auction and buy a car that does not let you check the car out before buying it. Also, you may not get the chance to test drive any car before you buy it, thus, make sure you go through the history of the car to know if it has any problem.
  • Guarantees: Once you bid a car and buy it, it’s yours. The problem is that even if you find anything wrong with it, you can not return the car. However, some auctions offer a limited time for inspection after you have bought the car. The only way you can return it is if there is a serious manufacturing problem. Besides, there are no guarantees for any car for how long the car will last and you will not receive any kind of warranty.
