Family trips on the weekend or on vacations are important. One should not compromise on having these and do not let anything ruin your trips. Before, you set out for your trips, it is very important to check your vehicle or have a professional checked it. A pre-road trip check-up would definitely help you prevent unexpected things to happen in the midway. Before every trip have the below mentioned items checked by your mechanic:
- Tires: Tire pressure should always be set to manufacturer specifications. Because under-inflated tires can blowout when heat is built up. This problem commonly arises when a vehicle is driven for a long distance or for a long period of time. Maintaining proper tire pressure is especially important if you are required to haul a boat or something like that.
- Battery: Battery check-up before road trips is a must. Car batteries tend to lose charge more quickly in hot weather than they do in cold weather as opposed to what people tend to think. If the battery is over three years old, have it checked professionally to make sure it is still in good condition or if you are told it is not in a good condition, consider replacing it immediately.
- Fluids, Belts and Hoses: Troubles with belts and hoses account for the second biggest problem after battery troubles that cause people to seek for roadside assistance. Thus, it is important to check the belts and hoses for cracks, leaks and splits before you head out on any trip. Make sure the faulty ones are replaced. Besides, fluids should all be topped off before any summer road trip.
- Brakes: Make sure the brakes of your vehicle are in proper condition. These are some of the most important components to be checked by a professional.
- Wiper Blades: Check and make sure if all the wiper blades of your vehicle are working properly. Consider replacing any of the blades if it is worn or do not clean the windows well.
