  • Clogged catalytic converter.

To troubleshoot the problem of engine hesitation, you need to make sure your car’s ignition system is working properly. Also try to keep the air filter clean and replace any damaged part immediately.

Engine Surges: Engine surges refer to the problem in running car, when there is a sudden increase in the speed! Following are a few factors that contribute to such kind of engine problem:

  • If the car engine is too hot.
  • Problems with the fuel pressure regulator.
  • Wrong ignition timings.
  • Damaged distributor cap, spark plugs, rotor, and ignition wires.
  • Clogged fuel filter.


The problems associated with engine surging can be eliminated with good maintenance of the overall engine and the ignition system. Again, consider replacing damaged parts like spark plugs, rotor, distributor caps, and ignition wires.

Engine Sounds: Sometimes, very strange sounds with expelling air and steam out of the engine can be heard from the front and rear of vehicles. These sounds are basically produced when a car engine does not function properly. Factors that are responsible for faulty engine sounds include:

  • Overheated engine.
  • Plugged exhaust system and catalytic converter.
  • Leakage in the vacuum lines.
  • Damaged exhaust pipe.

Here also the solution is to keep the engine and its components in well maintained condition.
