Know About Car Brakes

Just imagine a car without brakes! What would have happened if your car was not equipped with brakes? Well, there would have been no force to stop the car, and definitely we would have heard many accidents on roads. In order to avoid such circumstances, technology has gifted brakes for our cars. Brakes are a very important feature of a car and an integral part of car driving. With times, automakers have revised the brake system to be more dependable, efficient and reliable.

A car brake system does not consist only brakes, but it comes with a number of components. All these components work altogether, thereby making the brake system control and regulate the kinetic energy of the car. The integrated braking system consists of brakes, hoses, tubes, combination valve, a master cylinder and brake fluid.

Further, brakes can be divided into two types- disc brakes and drum brakes. The brakes are connected to a system of tubes and hoses with the rear and this connective system is also known as brake lines or brake lining. This system is instrumental in transferring the fluid from the cylinder to wheels of the car.

The combination valve does its job of indicating any sort of break damage. The master cylinder is located in the engine compartment of the car. It is integrated with two different cylinders, each controlling two wheels. The function of the master cylinder is to apply pressure to the car circuits. Brake fluid is the oil placed on top of the master cylinder. Its function is to withstand high temperatures.

Basically, friction and heat are two principles that regulate a car’s brake system. When you apply friction to any turning wheel, it produces heat which eventually slows down the car and stops  it. The rate of slowing down the car depends on a number of factors, such as braking force, weight of the car, type of brake, surface area and control of the driver.
