No matter what type of car you drive, be it old or new, big or small, you can take a few preventive steps to keep it eco-friendly car, in order to protect the environment. Following are the five steps recommended by the Car Care Council through which you can help protect your environment:
- Make sure that your car is properly tuned up at all time for optimum performance! Because, a well-tuned car engine delivers the best balance of power, fuel economy as well as produces the lowest level of emissions. Generally, a modern vehicle’s tune-up regime includes checking a few car systems, including its battery charging and starting; engine mechanical; power-train control; fuel; ignition; and emissions.
- Keep up with regular check up and replacing dirty air filters. Because, dirty air filters cause wastage of gas and engine to lose power. Therefore, replacing a clogged air filter would improve your car’s gas mileage by as much as 10 percent.
- Keep checking the spark plugs on a regular basis and if necessary replace them. Normally, a car has four, six or eight spark plugs, that fire as many as 3 million times every 1,000 miles, resulting a lot of heat, as well as chemical & electrical erosion. When these plugs are dirty, they cause misfiring, thereby wasting fuel.
- Try to maintain the cooling system of your car. Remember, a cooling system thermostat is responsible for an engine to run too cold, and lower the fuel efficiency of a car almost by two mpg. You can find many improved radiator caps in the market which will allow your car’s cooling system to operate at a higher temperature before boiling over, and will increase its efficiency.
