  • Always park your car in a well-lit public place. Because, the more eyes on your car means difficulty for a thief to do anything to it. It is likely to get a car stolen if it is parked in a dark area.
  • Keep the car doors locked and windows rolled up, even if it is parked at your own residence. Remember, theft can happen in matters of seconds.
  • Always keep valuables in your car hidden. Thieves can break into your car for valuables like purses, shopping bags, and once they get into the car the next possible step is to steal the car.
  • Having an anti-theft device or auto theft alarm system can help. Therefore, when you buy a vehicle, always go through its specs and make sure that it has an alarm system in it.
  • You can also consider buying a visible mechanical locking device to lock the steering wheel. Also install locking lug nuts to prevent your custom wheels or spare tire from being stolen.
  • Never keep your keys in the ignition. If you do, this means you are making the stealing act easy for the thief. Moreover, you can ask your car dealer or a locksmith to remove the number on your ignition keys, which thieves can use to make duplicate ones.
  • Tinted windows will help you in figuring out if anyone is going to break into your car. Such windows will also make it harder for a thief to peer inside the car in search of valuables.
  • You might have a spare key of your car but never leave that key inside your car where a thief can find it. So, it’s better if you take the spare key with you when you are not inside the car.
  • Most importantly, never leave your car running and unattended. Even if you are going out of the car for a single minute, turn off your car and take the keys with you. If possible, disconnect either the battery or the coil wire from the distributor cap if you are going to leave the car unattended for an extended period of time.
