It is apparent from the statistics that teen drivers are the most vulnerable drivers on the road! According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), 16-year old drivers get into accidents almost six times more often than drivers between the age of 30 and 59. Not to mention, car insurance premiums for this age group are very high as well. Thus, one should always remember that, the higher the risk, the higher the cost of insurance premiums! Though not every insurance company sticks to this. There are a few companies that offer discounts and help you cut costs on insurance premiums. But, the best thing you as a parent can do and help your teenage drivers is by spreading a few words of safety and alertness. Here are some suggestions to help lower premiums and keep your young drivers’ driving license free of violations:

• Set a good example: This has to be you who can set a good example for your children. If you often break the speed limit, you can’t expect your children to act differently! Thus, realize this thing and from now onwards, start watching your own driving speed. By this way, you can be able to convince them on safe driving.
• Help your teen drivers learn laws and ask to obey them: Learning the laws is in fact the primary thing that every teen driver should do! Laws have set some rules to obey on the road, therefore insist your children to follow them. This would help them to keep their driving record clean, which in turn would help lower their insurance costs.
• Put your teenager on your insurance policy: Yes, instead of getting an independent auto insurance policy for your teen driver, you can put them on your policy as an additional driver. Because, the available discounts on you would pass on to your children.
• Enroll teen drivers in driver education courses: Let me tell you, discounts on insurance premiums are available for those teen drivers who take recognized driving classes. However, before zeroeing on any school, consult your auto insurance company to know which schools provide recognized driver education.
