Get The Most Out Of Your Fuel Tank
With high fuel prices, drivers are looking to get the most out of their tanks. In response to higher fuel prices, many people are opting for alternate modes of transportation. But, what about those who need their cars on a daily basis. Well, this category of drivers can also get the most out of their tanks by increase fuel efficiency.
As Shell fuels engineer and ASE-certified technician Mark Ferner says, “With the cost of vehicle ownership and car care growing every year, we all want to be more fuel efficient.” “Using money-saving driving techniques and car care tips is an easy way to help get the most out of every gasoline purchase.”
Here are a few Shell “FuelStretch” tips which would help drivers save money on fuel:
- Drive smoothly: While you drive, avoid sudden and frequent acceleration or braking. Because, speeding, rapid acceleration, as well as braking, lower your car’s gasoline mileage by almost 5 percent at city speed and by 33 percent at highway speed.
- Replace dirty air filters: Always keep checking your car’s air filters. If necessary replace them with clean filters, which will improve gasoline mileage by almost 10 percent. Because, air filters protect the engine from impurities.
- Keep the engine well-tuned: Maintain regular check-up of your car’s engine. If you find any problem, repair it immediately. This will improve your gasoline mileage by 4 percent on average.
- Keep tires well-inflated: Tire pressure should neither be under-inflated nor over-inflated. Proper air pressure significantly cuts down on fuel used while driving. By keeping tires at the manufacturer recommended pressure, you can improve gasoline mileage by more than 3 percent.
- Keep minimum load on car trunk: Reduce extra weight from your car trunk as well as back seats. In order to this, consider only the necessary things inside the car, and remove unnecessary items. Removing excess weight can improve your gasoline mileage.
- Fill your car engine with recommended grade of oil: Following manufacturer’s motor oil recommendation could also improve gasoline mileage by almost 2 percent.
