GM’s ‘Dear John’ Letter To Big Oil
Keeping in mind the high oil price issue, Detroit-based automaker, General Motors will launch a new Television commercial later this month.
GM corporate marketing director, Katherine Benoit at the American Advertising Federation meeting said that the automaker is launching a corporate campaign this month that addresses the oil-price issue head-on.
The commercial is GM’s Dear John letter to Big Oil that begins by saying, “We’ve had this great relationship for many years. We think we will both be a lot happier and healthier if we see less of each other.”
The slot is created by McCann-Erickson. Benoit said that it will first air on June 22, during NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
GM is also planning to follow the ad with Chevrolet green campaign as a part of its NBC Olympics sponsorship which will highlight GM’s coming enviro-friendly tech.
Over the past year, GM has been increasing its marketing efforts for its most fuel-efficient vehicles. Although the Detroit-based automaker is one of the largest producers of Flex-Fuel vehicles, it has suspended all ads for its E85 models, partly due to availability issues and largely because of the negative publicity the corn-based fuel has been facing lately.
