Do’s And Don’ts To Consider While Buying New Tires

When it comes to safety of a car, it is quite apparent that the tires of the car come to our mind at the first place. Yes, tires are the most important safety feature on your car, because, they are the single features that connects a car to the road. None of the life-saving advanced technologies, be it antilock brakes or electronic stability control would perform its function if the tires do not have a good grip on the pavement. Despite its undeniable importance, tires are still the least-understood components of a car. A majority of car owners or drivers do have very little knowledge or information on tires. Below are a few do’s and don’ts, to be followed while buying new tires. These will also help you know a little more about car tires.

Here we go:

DON’Ts

  • Don’t spend too little on your tires: Remember, poor quality or poorly designed tires can result in longer stopping distances, as well as less control in an emergency maneuver. Typically, all types of tire feature traction ratings (AA, A, B or C) stamp on their right side. You should consider buying tires that have an A or AA rating.
  • Don’t spend too much on your tires: The above mentioned point doesn’t mean that you should spend very high either. High-profile brands of course provide high quality tires, but there are also some lesser-known tire manufacturers that provide fine quality products at lower prices. Generally, tire dealers do have a fair knowledge of all these things, so you can get recommendations from a reliable tire dealer.

DO’s

  • Do choose the right tire dealer: Instead of going to a local repair shop or a mechanic for buying new tires, you should opt for full-service tire dealer. This is because, the latter often has a wide variety of brand names, as compared to a local repair shop or a mechanic, which usually carries a limited number of tire models. Moreover, a full-service tire dealer is also likely to recommend you what type of tire you should buy, according to your driving habit.
  • Do buy all four tires at once: New tires have better grip on the pavement, as compared to the old ones. Therefore, it is recommended you replace all four tires at once. However, if you want to replace them in pairs, consider putting the new tires on the back, no matter whether your car is front-wheel or rear-wheel-drive.
