Volvo is actually a Swedish brand which originated in the year 1927 in Gothenburg, Sweden. They even manufacture trucks, buses, marine engines, industrial power systems, aerospace components and construction equipment. Recently, Ford has announced their plans to sell Volvo. A Chinese manufacturer ‘Geely’ is reputed to be the preferred buyer. Volvo trucks have their own security measures such as Alcolock, a safety measure where the driver has to blow into a mouthpiece before starting it. This is used to measure the alcohol intake of the driver and if there is too much of the same, the truck won’t start.

Both Volvo and the National Transportation Safety Administration authority have confirmed this problem during the crash testing of the car. The NHTSA and Volvo have decided to issue the recall keeping the same in mind. Yet, there haven’t been any incidents reported so far by the owners. They haven’t submitted or raised any complaint till date against any issue whatsoever.

The report issued by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration regarding this problem states that “The driver’s seat side cover panel (seat control panel) in certain driver-side impacts may release the attachment of the seatbelt to the seat frame.” The report also includes that in case of a crash, if any such condition arises, then the seatbelt would not be capable enough to hold back the occupants or passengers sitting inside the car. This would further the risk of damage to the occupants.

In case of any collision, the seatbelt gets released from the seat frame. At this time, if the seat belts fail to protect properly, then certainly the damage would increase. This would lead to major injury to the occupants sitting inside the car.

On December 15, 2009, the recall plan would be put into action. It would make the manufacturers of the SUV to reform and revise the insides of the car. The inside of the cover panel of the driver-side needs to be altered so as to avoid any such damage during a sidecar crash. It would help in lowering and almost eliminating the risk of the accidental release of the seatbelt during a crash.

The manufacturers of the SUV have decided to fix the panel for all the manufactured SUVs till date. The existing customers can very easily go and get the cover panel of the driver side seat for free.
