Toyota, Honda and Detroit 3 Struggled, Nissan Rises

August proved to be a very difficult month for Toyota and the Detroit 3. Nissan Motor Co., on the other hand managed to post a solid gain in terms of its US Sales. Their sales are up 1 percent for the year to date. The company confirmed that its US sales rose by a huge margin of 13.6% in the month of August, to 108,493 vehicles, due to the increased demand for large trucks and SUVs.

Nissan-brand sales were up 14.2 percent to 97,417 vehicles in August, driven by a 32.6 percent jump in light-truck sales, Al Castignetti, who is the vice president and general manager of Nissan Division, told Reuters. (more…)

Toyota Is Likely To Export Tundras and Sequoias

Toyota Motor Corp. is planning to convert U.S. into its export house as the company is looking forward to export its Tundra pickup and Sequoia SUV, in the face of the current declining scenario of the North American sales. Steve St. Angelo, who is the president of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky Inc., told the Management Briefing Seminars today that the overseas buyers might get attracted towards light trucks that the company is going to offer them in the future.

The Tundra is manufactured primarily at the San Antonio assembly plant and on the other hand, the Sequoia is manufactured in Princeton, Ind. Because of the high inventories, the company idled the further production of these vehicles on Friday, Aug. 8. It has been said that Toyota will resume the production in mid-November. (more…)

Toyota to Build Prius First Time In U.S.

In a response to slumping sales, high gas prices and increasing consumer demand for hybrid vehicles, like most of the U.S. motor companies, Toyota Motor Corp. plans to make some changes in its production line. The Japanese company will scramble its manufacturing plans to fewer light trucks and more hybrid cars in the United States.

Toyota announced that it will build the hybrid Prius in the United states for the first time as the automaker adjusts its U.S. manufacturing operations to meet consumer demands for smaller and more fuel-efficient vehicles. Prius will be the second hybrid car next to the hybrid version of Camry sedan, that is being scheduled to build outside Asia. Camry’s hybrid version is built in Georgetown, Kentucky. (more…)

Toyota Plans To Become Enviro-Friendly With Two New Hybrids

After Honda Motor Company and Nissan Motor Company announced to become enviro- friendly with their green car programs, Toyota Motor Corp. has taken a step ahead in the green car wars.

Toyota is planning to launch two new hybrid vehicles that will debut at the 2009 Detroit auto show and will start of the production of lithium ion battery next year. (more…)
