Washing your Car

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Everyone loves his Car but maintaining the cleanliness of the Car is equally important and one should not take it lightly. Since washing is the first step one should do, it is dependent upon a number of factors too like location, climate and all, and one should keep in mind the following points:

  • A regular wash of the car is very important in order to get rid off the dirt created from the climate, birds, snow or dust retaining its original shine and cleanliness.
  • Generally most 90% of the cars are parked in the parking lounge of apartment, flat, building due to which dirt and surface contaminants get accumulated and therefore, must be washed either regularly or weekly or biweekly.
  • Regular wash is not necessary for all the cars since some people keep their cars in their garages and that too covered, so chances of dirt get reduced, although not much, but a weekly wash can work good in such conditions.
  • But one can wash his Car monthly rather washing and cleaning it weekly or biweekly, if the car does not travel daily or over long distances. In such case, a good wash will ensure that any kind of dirt that have been accumulated in the month, is removed thoroughly.
  • If one lives in a polluted area or the he parks his car in a muddy or snowy area, then daily wash is of no use and a weekly wash works much better. As a regular wash becomes really hectic for the car owner when the dirt of sand or mud accumulates daily.

If you love your Car, keep it clean. Make it look appealing from outside as well as from inside. Maintaining a Car is as much tough as much it is easy and pleasing.

Since, pollution, dirt, snow, bird droppings usually spoil the car’s finish and appearance. With a piece of cloth, one can daily just wipe off the dirt and can clean it with water on alternate days if not regularly.
  2. Changing Oil- A car needs uniform oil change for a smooth long running engine. It needs to be changed in maximum 6 months to ensure its long life.

  3. Hood Check up- This means that a car’s hood needs to be checked which shows all the problems of that car.

  4. Waxing of Car- One can get his Car waxed twice or thrice a year in order to retain its original shine and beauty.

  5. Timing Belt-Car makers generally use these belts as an alternative for the better chains because these chains are expensive to produce and are noisier as well.

If you want a Car, remember, it needs you too. In the sense, that it depends on you how you take care of it and make it run till itself stops running.

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Learning driving is not a very difficult task, but not a very easy job too. Just knowing the rules and technicalities of driving does not work, one must know where to use those rules and technicalities in order to prevent any unintended accidents or bad happenings what soever.

Whether one is a youth or a senior, driving rules are same for everyone. Below are some basic rules of driving, one must know and follow:

  • To get started with driving, one must have a driving license which acts as a legal permit to drive. A driving license makes the person eligible to drive a vehicle and which is given on few parameters like eyes testing, drug tests, checking for disabilities and a written exam.
  • Now, one should always begin with the ground level. Adjusting the seat for the easy access to pedals, wearing the seat belt and arranging the rear view mirror in a way one is able to see the reflection of the back.
  • One should know and remember the three pedals which are the most important functions to run a Car. They are clutch, the brake and the accelerator.
  • One must check whether the gear is neutral or not as the gear shift should always be in neutral before starting the car. To start the car, one should turn on the engine and press the clutch down to the floor, raise a little accelerator side by side and as put the gear shift in the first gear.
  • One should be careful in handling the clutch and the accelerator at the same time. As soon as the car comes in motion, one should leave the clutch and let the car move on its own. But one must make sure that his left foot is lightly resting over the brake.
  • Then, as soon as the car picks up the speed, one should shift to the second gear, and this is done when one has reached 20 mph. Similarly, when one has reached 40 mph, he should change to the third gear and so on. This procedure is same while deceleration so one must never skip gears and change them in order only.
  • At last, to stop the car, one should just first slow down the car, take off his foot from the accelerator and press the brake gradually and completely. One should remember that a brake pressed hastily can lead to accidents.

With the price of organic fuel rising steadily, maintaining a vehicle has become really expensive. By being a little more cautious while driving we can make our drive much more pocket-friendly.

One of the best ways to save fuel is to simply reduce the speed, because as the speed increases the fuel economy decreases exponentially. Jack-rabbit starts are always fuel wasters. So when we accelerate, we need to accelerate with care. Though it may sound strange, hanging on with heavy vehicles like trucks, during traffic jams, can really help, because they maintain a constant speed which adds to the health of the engine. It is also important to keep an eye on the tire pressure. Under-inflated tires have more rolling resistance, due to which we may need to burn more fuel to keep our car moving. Then there is the dirty air filter which needs to be either changed or cleaned in order to keep air moving into the engine and thus adding to the performance and economy. Above all, there is common sense knowledge that switching off the air-conditioner helps in saving not only fuel but also brings us closer to nature. (more…)
