As far as auto emission is concerned, it seems that hybrid cars are the only solution to the current global warming debate, since they are more fuel-efficient and produce less emissions as compared to its conventionally powered counterparts. These are among the few factors for which hybrid cars are gaining in popularity in recent time. When driving a hybrid car looks trendy and at the same time it saves you a lot on the cost of your fuel. But, often a question raises, are the present gas electric hybrid cars the best and most efficient way of saving the environment and  money? Is there a better option other than these?

The new generation of diesel cars may be an option to hybrid cars, that burn their fuel very cleanly and efficiently. In addition, they can be able to give a competition to hybrid cars in terms of fuel economy. These cars are mostly produced by European manufacturers which give huge cost savings over standard diesel engine cars, as well as gas powered cars. In terms of fuel economy, such diesel cars can achieve as much as 90 miles per gallon, which is better than the best of the hybrid cars can achieve. They also offer low emissions, as they burn fuel cleanly and efficiently. Apart from European car manufacturers, American manufacturers such as Jeep are now producing the new generation of diesel cars!

Another alternative to hybrid cars is hydraulic hybrid cars. Even though they are much similar in their basic principle to standard hybrid cars, but the difference is that hydraulic hybrid cars use a hydraulic accumulator to store energy via nitrogen gas, which is then compressed by a hydrogen motor and then it is used to power the vehicle through a hydraulic drivetrain, instead of a standard transmission. These differences make hydraulic hybrid cars very efficient and they are also cheaper to produce as compared to standard hybrid cars.

Electric cars are one more alternative to hybrid cars. Apart from these, there are fuel cell cars that are thought to be one of the best options for emission free motoring. With this type of cars, motorists will need to buy fuel as liquid hydrogen, which would then be mixed with oxygen from the air (the same way that a conventional engine takes air and uses the oxygen to mix with the gas.) And the mixture can be used to generate electric power to drive the vehicle.
