Advancements In Automotive Emission System

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Automotive engineering has come a long way and with times it has introduced many advanced technologies, be it, to offer great driving experience or to limit the harmfulness to the environment. In this regard, one of the most significant advancements in automotive engineering are the technologies that helped reduced air pollution, largely contributed by automobiles. Vehicles emit harmful gases like carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and oxides of nitrogen into the environment during the combustion process. Automobile parts, such as engine exhaust, fuel tanks, crankcase and carburetor are some of the main sources from where these gases are being emitted.

With the increasing number of automobiles, the rate of pollution was also increasing day by day. (more…)

Electric Cars- Theory of Their Working

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Unlike conventional cars, electric cars make use of electrical energy instead of an internal combustion engine. They utilize electric motors and motor controllers in order to drive the wheels on the road. But, are you not interested in knowing how do they actually work? Definitely, you are! Let’s find out how does an electric car work.

There are many differences between a gasoline car and an electric car. Under the hood, the main differences are:

  • In an electric car, the gasoline engine is replaced by an electric motor.
  • The electric motor gets its power from a controller.
  • The controller gets its power from rechargeable batteries. (more…)

Electric Cars- Alternative Fuel Cars

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Electric cars are alternative fuel cars, that utilize electrical energy to drive the wheels, unlike conventional cars that rely on an internal combustion engine or combustion of fuels. Electric cars use electric motors and motor controllers for that purpose. In modern world, electric cars are gaining in popularity over conventional cars because of their simple mechanism and hard core performance.

There are also vehicles that utilize both electric motors and other types of engine, which are known as hybrid electric vehicles. These cars operate in a charge-sustaining mode, thus they are not considered pure electric vehicles. Pure electric cars work on the principle of electric current generated from batteries. The current produced is then transferred to the electric motor, which is converted into kinetic energy of the wheels. (more…)

Car Noises- The Indication Of Car Malfunction

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Car noises are very irritating and at the same time they cause sound pollution. But this is not just about car noises. Types Of Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Maintaining proper tire pressure is very important for the safety and performance of a vehicle. Proper inflated tires can decrease a vehicle’s fuel consumption, thereby increasing fuel efficiency, as well as it can help extend tire life. When you drive your car on tires with low pressures, it somehow also affects the car’s handling and performance. In order to keep all these things checked, an automated Tire Pressure Monitoring System or TPMS can help you by monitoring the vehicle tire pressure continuously. These systems are designed to increase safety, decrease fuel consumption, and improve vehicle performance. (more…)

Tire Pressure Monitoring System

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is an advanced car technology used to monitor tire pressure, thereby improving a vehicle’s safety! The monitoring system enhances the safety of a vehicle by warning its driver about the abnormal tire pressure, that could lead to severe mishap. Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems are a new standard to ensure the lives of the passengers inside a vehicle on the road.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System debuted in the year 1986 with Porsche 959. Thus, Porsche happened to be the first auto manufacturer in the world to use this advanced technology. (more…)

Tips To Troubleshoot Overheated Car Engines

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Car engines are capable of working within a certain temperature range. This uniform temperature is required by the engines to perform their functions properly. Overheating is a condition when the ability of car’s cooling system to absorb, transport and drive off the heat is diminished. Over heat can cause disastrous engine failure, thereby affecting the overall performance of the car. Engine overheating is a common problem mostly found in places of extreme weather condition.

The causes of engine overheating can be anything like damaged engine gaskets, coolant leaks, defective thermostat, poor heat inside the engine, inadequate airflow through the radiator, a defective radiator cap or loose water pump impeller. Well, here are a few tips as how to make the engine cool: (more…)
