Kerkorian’s Ford 20 Million Tender Offer Attracts Huge Response

Kirk Kerkorian’s investment company, Tracinda has launched a tender offer of 20 million additional shares of Ford Motor Company on May 9, which has been attracting many Ford investors. 

The investment company on Tuesday said that its tender offer of $8.50 a share drew offers of more than 1 billion of the company’s shares. It will buy 20 million shares for about $170 million, which will further help the company increase its stake in the automaker to about 5.5 percent. (more…)

GM’s Leadership Moves To streamline Marketing

After organizing its eight brands into four channels, General Motors has made some changes  in job responsibilities and titles of several of its channel leaders, eliminating a layer of management at the regional level.

The moves are part of an effort to manage the eight brands in a better way and to eliminate a layer of bureaucracy. In this regard, GM is moving some of its regional general managers to its headquarters in Detroit. (more…)

GM’s ‘Dear John’ Letter To Big Oil

Keeping in mind the high oil price issue, Detroit-based automaker, General Motors will launch a new Television commercial later this month.

GM corporate marketing director, Katherine Benoit at the American Advertising Federation meeting said that the automaker is launching a corporate campaign this month that addresses the oil-price issue head-on. (more…)

eBay Motors Launches New Hub For Certified Used Vehicles

The eBay Motors has launched the Certified Pre- Owned (CPO) showroom on Wednesday, June 11, featuring certified used cars and trucks listed for sale.

The eBay Motors, a part of the eBay Inc. is the Internet’s largest marketplace for buying and selling all automotive things. The site offers everyday cars for everyday drivers, as well as collectors cars, motorcycles, auto parts and accessories. (more…)

Chrysler Raises Prices For 2008 Inventories

In response to rising costs of steel and other raw materials, US third-largest car maker, Chrysler LLC is raising prices by an average of 2 percent of its remaining 2008 vehicles. Noteworthy, the steel prices for automakers have risen $500 a vehicle since January.

According to Chrysler spokesman, Stuart Schorr, “Today’s economic conditions and future forecasts indicate unrelenting pressure as it relates to commodity prices, specifically steel, which have forced our hand.” (more…)

Toyota Plans To Become Enviro-Friendly With Two New Hybrids

After Honda Motor Company and Nissan Motor Company announced to become enviro- friendly with their green car programs, Toyota Motor Corp. has taken a step ahead in the green car wars.

UAW Ratify Four-Year Contract With American Axle

United Auto Workers union has finally ratified the new four-year contract with American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. on late Thursday, ending the three-month-long strike against the company by a margin of 78 percent votes at its Detroit plant.

With the approval of the agreement that calls for wage cut & costs and closing of two plants, the production of various motor parts for General Motors Corp. will resume. The contract was proposed to the workers on May 18 in a hope to settle down the wage-and-benefit dispute at American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. (more…)

Tata Announces CEO For Jaguar and Land Rover

India’s premier automaker, Tata Motors has announced David Smith as the new CEO for Jaguar and Land Rover, after the automaker has completed the purchase of the two brands from Ford Motors.

Tata Motors went on a deal to buy Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford on March 26 this year and the purchase was supposed to be completed by the second quarter of the year. (more…)

Nissan Heads To Build More Altimas And Fewer Trucks

Nissan Motor Company is likely to make work shifts at its North American car and truck plant in Canton, Mississippi to boost up the production of Altima cars while reducing the production of pickup trucks and sports utility vehicles.

The dramatic drop in sales of pickup trucks and SUVs and strong increasing demand for the Altima mid-size sedan in the U.S. market has been the reason behind the move, as said by the company officials. (more…)

The sales and marketing vice president of Nissan Mexicana, Julio Panama has recently become the president of the Mexico subsidiary.

Panama, 54 has earlier headed Nissan Mexicana as the purchasing director, sales and marketing vice president as well as president of Nissan South Africa. He became the subsidiary’s sales and marketing vice president in April. (more…)
